Xiaomi Redmi K20 Summary
The Xiaomi Redmi K20 aesthetics are intriguing and it stands out in a span of other phones with a glass slab design and flashy gradients. The 6.4-inch AMOLED display is of excellent quality, and the in-display fingerprint sensor is also quick.
The triple rear cameras produce impressive results, and except for the underwhelming low-light performance and little other insignificant issues, the overall output is a cut beyond what the competition offers. The phone’s battery life is also prominent, with the 4,000mAh it will easily make it past a day.
The Snapdragon 730 SoC powering this device ensures a lag-free usage in even the most taxing situations and delivers a smooth gaming experience. A refined MIUI with features like a dark mode, app drawer, and ambient display is a bonus on the software side.
Redmi K20 Design.
Redmi K20’s design is one of its largest charisma. The flame-inspired gradient design on Glacier Blue rear panel looks eye-catching, while the black stripe in the middle conflicts with the dynamic pattern on both sides.
Xiaomi calls this Aura Prime Design and states it has been accomplished using a 6-layer stacking process. The back of the phone is composed of curved Gorilla Glass 5. This design is seen in the Glacier Blue and Flame Red variants of the phone, but the device also comes in a Carbon Black variant with a sleeker and more understated Kevlar-like finish.
The curved glass panel ensures a satisfactory grip but is quite slippery, and the rear panel also gets smudged quickly, so it is advisable to invest in a case or a skin
The frame running of the phone is made of Aluminium and matches the color scheme of the rear panel. in general, the Redmi K20 is built solidly and has a premium feel.
The device has Gorilla Glass 5 on the rear as well as the front. The volume rockers and red power buttons are conveniently positioned on the right side, and both present good tactile feedback when pressed. The camera setup at the back of the Xiaomi Redmi K20 protrudes slightly, but this isn’t enough to make the phone rock while lying flat.
The pop-up front camera has LED lights that glow when it is raised in a dark environment. It also has a small circle at the top that acts as the phone’s notification light, but it is difficult to notice most times when the phone is lying flat.
The company has trimmed the bezels on all sides of the display to give the device an all-screen look. The chin is slimmer compared to other phones in this price range, making the phone look modern.
There are three rear cameras – a 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor, an 8MP telephoto camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera with 124.8-degree field of view.
A pop-up 20MP camera handles the selfies and protecting it is sapphire glass, while the module itself automatically retracts when the phone detects that it is falling.
The Camera supports slow-motion video capture at up to 960fps and 4K video capture at 30fps. There is a dedicated night mode, lighting effects, and a ton of beautification filters to play with.
Specifications and Software
It gets the Snapdragon 730 SoC, and with its eight Kryo 470 cores and Adreno 618 GPU, it truly dims the lines between flagships and mid-range models.
The smartphone comes in two variants – a base model with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and a higher-end 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It does not support microSD card slot for storage expansion.
On the software aspect, the Xiaomi Redmi K20 runs MIUI 10.3.3 based on Android 9 Pie.
The device features a 6.39-inch full-HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) HDR AMOLED touchscreen display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 403ppi pixel density, 600 nits of peak brightness and an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 91.9 percent.
It has an in-display fingerprint sensor which is reasonably quick and accurate and unlocked the device within a second. While setting up the fingerprint sensor, you would be warned that using an adhesive screen protector might conflict with the sensor, and only an authorized protective cover compatible with the phone should be applied.
