Understanding GPS Trackers: The Brief Overview
A GPS tracker is a utility device that provides users with realtime positioning, tracking, and timing services. The system consists of three basic segments:
- The space segment
- Control segment
- User interface
Below shows a brief history and description of how the GPS technology works:

GPS satellites broadcast from 70 million feeds high above in space, and the level of the signal that reaches the earth is very thin, and cannot be easily detected; Also, signals can easily be blocked by trees, tall buildings and reflections from structures and hills.
This is one of the major reasons for the development of GPS tracking devices.
GPS tracking can be broken down thus:
This can be further broken down as shown in the infographics below:
First, GPS satellites high above in space track the realtime position of the device embedded with the GPS tracking system and sends this information via a cellular network to a dedicated server, which in turn then sends the information to the user either via mobile or any internet enabled device.
As you’ve probably experienced, even GPS tracking navigation systems sometimes give you the wrong or delayed guidance. This could be due to any of the following:
- GPS trackers need to receive signals from at least 3 satellites in space, and once one of the three central satellites is blocked by any kind of obstacle, the location can not be estimated fast enough.
- Weak signal level cellular network for reporting the tracker’s location to its respective dedicated servers. This can be worst in rural areas.
- A weak battery may reduce the performance of a GPS tracker.
So with all these said, how can one go about choosing the best GPS tracker device to buy?
Tracki GPS Tracker: The Best in the Market, and WHY?
What makes Tracki GPS so unique? You may ask…
Well, Tracki mini GPS tracker is the best low budget GPS tracker that’s great for keeping tabs on not just your vehicles, but pretty much anything or anyone, including pets for just under $20.
When we say mini, we mean the Tracki GPS tracker is probably one of the smallest and lightest GPS trackers around. It only measures 1.74 X 1.5 X 0.6 inches and weighs just 1.26 ounces.
This makes it really easy for the device to be discretely placed in your car, bag, suitcase, or just carried around in your pocket. The size and weight of the Tracki device gives you almost unlimited options of where you place it and a great way to keep track of children, and even the elderly, especially with the included belt-clip.
Tracki gives you the flexibility to use in any tracking situation.
While most GPS trackers rely on just satellites or LTE signals, Tracki also makes use of WIFI and Bluetooth connection, so even while indoors, in shopping malls or airports, you’ll still be able to track with full performance.
This solves the issue of weak signal level cellular network that reduces tracking capability.
Tracki is also supported in 188 countries, including the United States, which improves it tracking coverage over a wide range, thus improving tracking performance.
Tracki Full Specifications

Not so may GPS tracking devices are as good as the Tracki GPS tracker.
As discussed earlier, Tracki GPS tracker also comes with integrated use of both Bluetooth and WIFI, unlike other GPS tracking devices that work only on cellular technology for real time tracking.
This feature makes the Tracki GPS tracker even more portable than usual. When indoors, device relies on Wi-fi mac ID matching to a global database, and when outdoors, it relies on GPS/A-GSM/GSM.
For short distant tracking, the Tracki GPS tracker relies on Bluetooth connectivity within the last 50ft.
Tracki also keeps all your data record in tact as it records and gives you the option to obtain all your tracking history for up to the last 5 years.
And finally, the device is so quick and easy to set up. It takes just about 3 minutes to fully set up your Tracki GPS tracker on purchase, and can track for up to 6 months if set to track only thrice daily.

This extended battery can last up to 2 weeks at 1 min update & 6 months tracking at 6 times per day.
A critical element that contributes in consuming the battery life power of GPS trackers is the amount of work you expect for it to do daily. Some features in a tracker actually require more energy, for example, speed alerts and very frequent tracking.
With that said, Tracki actually comes with a special battery saving mode that lets you turn off specific features that are currently not being used, for a longer battery time. Tracki’s battery saver mode lets you operate the device on a power saving mode as explained in the video below:
Tracki is actually one of the cheapest, and most efficient tracking device you can find in the market for under $20. The device costs $18.88 on Amazon.
