First, GPS satellites high above in space track the realtime position of the device embedded with the GPS tracking system and sends this information via a cellular network to a dedicated server, which in turn then sends the information to the user either via mobile or any internet enabled device.
As you’ve probably experienced, even GPS tracking navigation systems sometimes give you the wrong or delayed guidance. This could be due to any of the following:
- GPS trackers need to receive signals from at least 3 satellites in space, and once one of the three central satellites is blocked by any kind of obstacle, the location can not be estimated fast enough.

#1: Performance

#3: Battery Capacity
The Tracki GPS tracking device come with a 600mAh rechargeable battery that can last up to 3 days with real time 1-5 minute tracking updates.
As discussed in the design section of this post, you can choose to buy the Tracki GPS waterproof box for protection against harsh weather condition, but it’s also important to note that this extra component comes with an extended battery capacity of 3,500mAh.
This extended battery can last up to 2 weeks at 1 min update & 6 months tracking at 6 times per day.
A critical element that contributes in consuming the battery life power of GPS trackers is the amount of work you expect for it to do daily. Some features in a tracker actually require more energy, for example, speed alerts and very frequent tracking.
With that said, Tracki actually comes with a special battery saving mode that lets you turn off specific features that are currently not being used, for a longer battery time. Tracki’s battery saver mode lets you operate the device on a power saving mode as explained in the video below:
