I understand how frustrating it is having to wade through pages of icons in search of a particular app thereby slowing your rate of productivity.

If this is you, then, you don’t have to worry as this guide will teach you how to organize apps on your iPad so as to speed up your search.

    Let’s learn!

How To Organize Apps On Your iPad – Explained

These days, there is an app for everything which makes constant app searching tiring but if you are able to figure out the ideal iPad app organizational flow for you as stated in this guide, then this issue will be a thing of the past.

Take a look at the iPad apps organization tricks below:

    1. Use Spotlight Search Or Siri

Here, you don’t have to organize apps on your iPad, all you have to do, especially if you have numerous apps, is to use spotlight search or Siri.

They come in handy while you are sorting, deleting, and searching for apps as they help to quicken things.

To achieve this, find Spotlight Search by swiping right on the Home screen, and using its search field to search for any app you want to use.

Interestingly, the Spotlight Search offers several suggestions for recently used apps, so if you just used the app you are searching for, you will find it in the suggestions.

Another method you can use is Siri. Press and hold the Home button to start Siri and then say Launch (the name of the app you want to open).

    2. Select A Scheme And Stick To It

When it comes to iPad app organization, you are free to create and enforce how you want your iPad apps to be organized.

There are various ways through which you can sort your apps, and I will provide you with some of them below:

    – Alphabetically

Just as the name implies, this procedure sorts all the apps you downloaded in alphabetical order, however, this may lead to numerous Home Screens.

You will see the downloaded apps after the default apps, and note that any app you download after you have done this will not be alphabetized.

The steps below will guide you on how to achieve this.

Step 1: Open the Settings app, and go to the left menu pane.

Step 2: Select General, and choose Reset.
Step 3: Select Reset Home Screen Layout and in the dialog box that appears, confirm your choice by selecting Reset.

    – Color

If color works better for you, then you should associate your apps with colors. For instance, you can group WhatsApp, Messages, and Spotify together while Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn will all be grouped together.

    – By Association

This involves placing similar apps next to each other, this way you can easily find whatever app you are searching for.

For instance, work tools like Slack, Evernote, and OneDrive should have a separate folder while messaging apps like Mail, Messages, and Safari front-and-center could share a folder.

    – By Function

Apps that perform similar functions can share a folder. For instance, you can name a folder  “Banking,” and put all your finance apps therein.

All of your streaming platforms can be placed in the “Streaming” category. Summarily, just ensure that the name of the folder is connected to the described function.

    – By Action

Name folders after action verbs like listen, read, or watch, and then put apps in each of the folders according to their purpose.

This way, whenever you are searching for a music app, for instance, you can use a verb that matches the app (which is listening in this case) to locate the folder that has the app.

    3. Organize Your iPad With Folders

Folders are ideal for organizing apps on your iPad, and this is a result of their app-sorting capabilities.

You can place all your frequently used apps in one folder so that you can easily fetch them when you need them.

That being said, create different folders ranging from entertainment to financial, and productivity folders to hold your apps, and if you aren’t using a folder, drag the apps in it to the Home screen, and the folder disappears.

Follow the steps below to create a folder:

Step 1: Click and hold the app icon until a menu appears.

Step 2: Select Edit Home Screen. (At this point, the app icons wiggle and display an X logo)

Step 3: Using your finger, click and drag the app to one of the available folder app icons. If you want to create a new folder, drag the app onto an app that you would like to share the folder with.

Step 4: Click the name area to add a name to the folder, or keep the default title.

Thankfully, the iPad easily identifies types of apps, so if you create a folder with two weather apps in it, for instance, the iPad will automatically name the folder Weather.

Step 5: Click outside of the folder to return to the Home screen. Now click, hold, and drag additional apps into the folder.

Step 6: Click Done to stop moving app icons.

    4. Remove Apps You Don’t Need

Are there apps you don’t need but are on your iPad? It’s time to get rid of them.

Check below, some of these apps may be on your iPad, and you don’t need them:

    • Camera: Since you can swipe left on the lock screen to open the camera, there is no need to have a camera app.
    • Clock: You can access this from the Control Center.
    • Calculator: You can control this through the Control Center (go to Settings, then go to the Control Center to rearrange and add more).
    • Contacts: The Phone app will just open a different tab to perform the same function.
    • Mail: Especially useful if you’re using Gmail or another great iOS email app.

    5. Create A Home Screen That’s Important to You

If you belong to the category of people who could download numerous games a day, and then would abandon them for a long period of time, then you need to ensure that your first Home Screen is for your most important apps.

Folders can fall into the second Home Screen since you can access the important apps with just a single tap from your first Home Screen. Additionally, you can include website shortcuts to your Home Screen so as to access your favorite sites easily.

In case you are yet to figure out the apps you tend to use the most, simply go to your iPad Settings then Battery to see a breakdown of battery usage by app, click the clock icon to see a breakdown of how long you’ve used each app.

Alternatively, go to Settings, then Screen Time to see the app categories and individual apps you spend the most time on.
