Design and Display
At first sight, it is a little difficult to believe that the Infinix S4 is a budget smartphone. It is well designed, and the shiny gradient back is the climax of it all. The Infinix S4 is available in three color variants, Nebula Blue, Space Gray, and Twilight Purple.
While the glossy back gives an opinion of glass, it is made out of plastic. However, the glossy rear is a good fingerprint magnet, and we had to keep cleaning the phone from time to time, and it is advisable to invest in a skin or a case. Infinix, however, does ship a clear case in the box, which will help keep the spots off to some extent.
The smartphone has a big 6.21-inch IPS LCD HD+ (720×1520 pixels) display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, and the company claims an 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display has a waterdrop notch, and the bezels are not too thick. It comes with a pre-installed screen protector with an extra one in the box.
The earpiece on the phone is quite slim and is wedged between the frame and the display.
We found the phone to be convenient to hold, and it was not too heavy.
Infinix has placed the power button and volume rockers on the right, but we found the volume rockers to be somewhat too high. Nevertheless, all these buttons have good clicky feedback.
The SIM tray is on the left as well as the dedicated MicroSD card slot.
Turn the device around, and the triple camera setup is sure to grab your attention. Such a structure isn’t typical at this price point, and it is amazing to see it on this device. The camera module swells slightly causing the smartphone to rock when placed on flat surfaces. Right below the camera module is a quad-LED flash. The bold fingerprint sensor is situated next to the camera and is easy to reach. The sensor has a matte texture, breaking the continuity of the glossy back.
At the bottom, you’ll find a Micro-USB port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a loudspeaker grille, while the top of the device is blank.
Performance and Battery
Infinix has selected the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC to power the device. This processor is gradually becoming standard at this price point, and we have seen other devices, including the Realme C2, and Oppo A1k using the same SoC.
The Infinix S4 comes only with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It allows a microSD card slot that accepts cards of up to 256GB.
This phone packs in a Non-removable Li-Po 4000mAh battery.
Infinix sells the S4 with XOS 5.0 running on top of Android 9 Pie, which is the latest version of Android,
The triple camera setup on the device is the climax of this device, as three cameras are not standard at this price point. There’s a 13MP primary sensor, an 8MP wide-angle sensor with a 120-degree field of view, and a third 2MP depth sensor. Just below the camera setup is a quad-LED flash j. At the front, this phone has a 32MP front-facing selfie shooter and screen flash.
The camera app has AI characteristics built in to help the smartphone detect what it is pointed. There are quick toggles available to switch to the wide-angle sensor. The app also has other modes such as Bokeh, Video, Beauty, and AR Shot.
Connectivity options on the Infinix S4 include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth v5.00, and Micro-USB. Sensors on the phone include an ambient light sensor, compass/ magnetometer, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor. The Infinix S4 supports face unlock.
