Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 smartphone launched in May 2019, it came in Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Emerald Green colors. It bears a plastic body.
HUAWEI is professedly better known for their three higher-end series, the HUAWEI Mate, P, and nova lineups. But they also make affordable devices, like the HUAWEI Y series.
The UI will be well-known to those who have used a recent HUAWEI/HONOR phones. The EMUI 8.2 os is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The same familiar aesthetic has been available since EMUI 5, and it seems like HUAWEI should have it refreshed. However, it is still one of the better UIs in China-made smartphones. Overall, everyday usage is smooth. It comes pre-installed with several apps like Camera360 and Z Camera, which was a mild annoyance.
Display and Design
The phone comes with a 6.57-inch LTPS IPS LCD touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels. It has a front glass and a plastic body.
The device has a motorized pop-up front-facing camera, 84.3% screen-to-body ratio, and a triple camera setup at the back.
From the front, the phone looks just like any mid-range device until you notice the dual front-facing camera.
The back of the smartphone looks more attractive. The finishing is a bit more understated than what we have seen, so it isn’t as attractive as some other devices with a similar finishing. Regrettably, HUAWEI used plastic here instead of glass.
More plastic is used here for the framework. While it’s glossy, I attempted scratching it, but it did pretty well-resisting scratches. The power button has a concentric circle design for a more appealing look, but make no error; it’s all plastic.
Over on the bottom, you will spot the 3.5mm headphone jack, micro-USB port, and primary speaker grille. The holes could have been more subtle, as the edges look rough on the device.
All-Inclusive, the HUAWEI Y9 (2019) looks good for its selling price but is presumably a device which probably would not stand out in a sea of phones with similar finishes.
Performance and Battery
An octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 710F processor powers Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 and it comes with packs 64GB of inbuilt storage that which is also expandable via microSD card (up to 512GB) and 4GB of RAM.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 runs EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie and is powered by a 4,000mAh battery.
For normal usage, you can squeeze out more than 48 hours away from the plug, with more than 6 (six) hours of screen on time. A heavier user might find it gives less standby time. However, a full day of use is possible in a single charge. Charging it up is a time-consuming affair, as 30 minutes connected to the provided adapter only gave me 22% of my battery back.
The Device is a dual-SIM smartphone that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 packs a three-camera setup at the rear which includes a 16MP primary camera, a second 8MP ultrawide camera, and a third 2MP depth sensor camera. it also has a 16MP front-facing selfie camera.
The additional camera apps aren’t exactly needed, because the built-in one is pretty great. It’s shared with the flagships, except the Master AI characteristics and also the Leica color profiles. Other than that, it’s pretty similar.
Well, it would be absurd to imagine that it would deliver anything close to what HUAWEI’s flagships can. And it doesn’t. The photos the HUAWEI Y9 produces are decent for the asking price though. It could do with a touch more detail, as things in the background are often reduced to smudgy objects. However, a solid showing for the price, especially when you can capture low light images with handheld exposure. The results are much clearer shots, but the oversharpening does lower the overall appeal of the pictures.
Connectivity options on the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.20, NFC, USB Type-C, 3G, and 4G with active 4G on both SIM cards.
Sensors on the phone include a compass/magnetometer, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer, and a fingerprint sensor.
Curved backs do offer more convenience holding the device, and the HUAWEI Y9 Prime is no different. Its smoothly curved back meets the sides. The display here is solid, with vigorous colors, great maximum brightness, and a TÜV Rheinland-certified eye comfort mode. No complaints about the screen.
