Deleting Apps from Your iPod Touch, AND WHY?
You must have downloaded or purchased an app from the App Store on your iPod Touch and long after maybe because you want to free up space or you no longer need the app and you need to delete the app but you don’t know how to go about it.

Don’t worry, in this post, I will show you how to delete apps on your iPod Touch. But take note that there are some apps on your iPod touch which are preinstalled that cannot be deleted. These apps include Maps, Safari, Stocks and Weather. Also if you delete an app that was purchased on the app store and afterwards you decide that you want to use the app again, the app store permits you to download and install it again for free.
How To Delete Apps From iPod Touch?
Unwanted apps can easily be removed from your iPod touch in a matter of seconds. If you need the app later, you can always download them on the App store. There are 4 different ways to delete unwanted apps from iPod touch and here are they:
- Deleting apps from iPod touch from the home screen
- Deleting apps from iPod touch using settings
- Deleting apps from iPod touch using iTunes on your Mac
- Deleting apps from iPod touch using third party applications
#1: How to Delete Apps from iPod touch from the Home Screen
To delete apps on your iPod touch from the home screen, follow the steps below.
Step #1: Tap and hold any app so that all of your apps begin to jiggle.
Step #2: Find the app that you want to delete from your iPod touch and tap on the close button (X) located at the upper-left side of the app.
Step #3: Tap Delete to confirm and get rid of the app.
Step #4: If you want to delete another app, repeat the steps above.
Step #5: When you are through deleting unwanted apps, press the home button to make the apps stop jiggling and for the home screen to return back to their normal state. You can also wait for a while for the apps to stop shaking and for the home screen to return to its normal state.
If your iPod touch is sync to your MacBook and you use the above steps to delete apps on your iPod touch, note that the app is not removed from your MacBook so you can also reinstall it later.
#2: How to Delete Apps from iPod Touch Using Settings
This method is best if you want to free up space on our iPod touch as you can see the apps which are taking up much space and delete them if they are no more useful.
To delete apps on your iPod touch using settings, follow the steps below.
Step #1: On your iPod touch, open the Settings app.
Step #2: Go to General and then tap on iPod touch Storage. For older iPod touch devices, the iPod touch Storage section is called the Storage & iCloud Usage. If that’s the option that you selected, then tap on Manage Storage that will be displayed on the next page.
Step #3: From the list of app, tap on any to see how much space the app is taking up on your iPod touch device and see how much space the app itself takes or just its associated data.
Step #4: Tap on Delete App, and confirm again to remove the app from your iPod touch device.
Step #5: Tap on Back at the top of the screen to go back to the list of apps on your iPod and you can then get rid of other apps.
#3: How to Delete Apps from iPod Touch using iTunes on your Mac
Note that the following steps are applicable to older versions of iTunes (versions below 12.7) as new versions don’t allow you to sync apps on your iPod to your Mac.
If you have an older version of iTunes installed on your Mac, follow the steps below.
Step #1: First sync your iPod touch with your MacBook.
Step #2: After you have completely synced your iPod touch with your Mac, select Apps from the drop-down menu which is located at the top of your computer screen. Then select your iPod touch in order to display all the apps on your device.
Step #3: From the list of apps displayed, select any that you want to get rid of from your iPod touch.
Step #4: Touch the Delete key and then select Move to Trash option on the pop-up that will be displayed.
Step #5: To remove another app, repeat the steps above.
Note that whenever you delete an app, you lose in-app data such as game scores.
#4: How to Delete Apps from iPod Touch Using Third-Party Applications
If you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your MacBook and you don’t want to use an older version of iTunes just to get rid of apps on your iPod touch, then using a third-party application will be ideal for you. These third-party applications also have some features missing in iTunes. An example of a third-party application that you can use to delete apps from your iPod touch is Syncios.
All you need to do is connect your iPod touch to your computer and launch Syncios. Go to the Apps menu and find the app you want to remove.
Click on the trash icon located next to any app that you want to delete. To get rid of multiple apps, check the box next to each app that you want to delete and remove them in bulk.
