Google Pixel 3a Summary
The Google Pixel 3a was launched in May 2019 and came in Just Black, Clearly White, Purple-ish. It is posed as an affordable alternative to Pixel 3. This smartphone assures the same Google Pixel experience but at a relatively lower price. You can squeeze the sides of the smartphone to summon Google Assistant.
The Google Pixel 3a makes a compelling argument for tossing out the spec sheet. On paper, it looks like another boring budget smartphone, with an ordinary processor, single rear and front cameras, and a bare-minimum 1080p screen. But at hand, you might mistake it for a premium phone. The device looks like a budget phone but acts like a premium one, in fact, it is the opposite of a premium Android phone
The Pixel 3a does none of that. Spec-, design-, and most importantly, price-wise. the device is made of plastic rather than glass like the Samsung galaxy s10 or the iPhone X, instead of a Quad HD screen, it has a Full HD screen, and its interior attributes such as the processor, battery, etc. are decidedly non-premium as well.
But the Pixel 3a is not about numbers.
Just like the premium Pixel 3 —which also has 64GB of base storage and 4GB of RAM—the 3a makes the most of its parts, offering an Android experience that competes with phones that cost way higher than it up to 2x or 3x the price. Plus it has a headphone jack, which most high-end devices are lacking. The only thing lacking in this budget smartphone is the microSD card compartment, which means the storage is not expandable, but as it stands, the Pixel 3a maxes out at a reasonably measly 64GB of storage. And unlike the pixel 3, you don’t get free unlimited storage of photos in original quality so that space might become an issue for those picture lovers.
Google has optimized Android for the smartphone to the point where the Pixel 3, which costs twice as much, doesn’t feel all that much faster than the 3a in standard use. Even with a lesser processor, Android Pie speed on the Pixel 3a is as fast as and in some cases faster than it is on other phones that cost twice as much.
Design and Display
The Pixel 3a has a 5.6-inch OLED display with a Full-HD+ resolution.
The smartphone resists the recent bezel-less design and comes with hug bezels both at the top and bottom of the device.
The display has a plastic body and front glass. The rear of the device houses the single camera, the flashlight, and the fingerprint sensor.
It has a USB-C at the bottom as well, and the top houses the 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as a microphone. The power button and a volume rockers are on the right side of the device. The Pixel 3a has stereo speakers as well, but these aren’t front-firing like the Pixel 3.
The Pixel phone’s design has never challenged the iPhones and Samsung Galaxies, so the Pixel 3a’s bezels and plastic back don’t really feel out of place, and the plastic back means the Pixel 3a doesn’t have wireless charging, which for the price range is not much of a surprise.
Performance and Battery
Powering the smartphone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 SoC which is an octa-core chip. It runs on 64GB of storage which isn’t expandable and 4GB of RAM.
The Pixel 3a has a single Nano-SIM port but offers dual-SIM functionality via an E-SIM.
Being a Pixel smartphone, the operating system is stock Android Pie with some of Google’s customization on top. Google has furnished the Pixel 3a with a 3000mAh battery. Once charged, It can easily power us for a day.
Camera
The smartphone has one primary camera setup on the rear, which is a 12.2MP camera. At the front, it has a single 8MP front-facing selfie camera. It has most of the camera features of the Pixel 3 like Night Sight, Super Res Zoom, and Playground.
The Google Pixel 3 price starts at 145,000 Naira.
