True Tone is Apple’s technology that makes your screen look more realistic, and it’s been around since the iPhone 5s.

It’s designed to work with all of the company’s content, including movies and music videos.

This article will instruct you on how to Disable And Enable True Tone On iPhones (8/8+, X, XS, XS Max).

What Is True Tone, And What Does It Do?

True Tone is a feature added to the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X that adjusts the display color based on ambient lighting.

The phone’s camera recognizes when you’re in bright or low light and will adjust how the screen looks.

This is all good for people who use their iPhones outside at night.

How To Enable True Tone On iPhones (8/8+, X, XS, XS Max..)

The True Tone feature is not only useful for reading but also for viewing videos and playing games. It makes images look more natural and less like they are glowing on your device’s screen.

To enable True Tone on your iPhone XS, XS Max, or any other device, you can follow these steps:

    • Go to Settings and tap Display & Brightness.
    • Tap on True Tone, then tap the toggle to enable it.

How To Disable True Tone On iPhones (8/8+, X, XS, XS Max..)

To disable True Tone on iPhones, follow these steps:

    • Go to Settings > Display & Brightness and tap the True Tone button.
    • Uncheck the box next to True Tone and hit Save Changes at the bottom of your screen.

What Happened To The Night Shift Toggle?

You may have noticed that the Night Shift toggle has been removed from the brightness options.

Apple has introduced a new True Tone feature, which makes your display more sensitive to ambient light than before. So, for example, you can set it up to automatically turn on at sunset and turn off at sunrise.

If you don’t want this new feature or want to take it out of your iPhone settings altogether, then follow these steps:

    • Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Tap on “True Tone” below Night Shift.
    • If you have already enabled True Tone, tap “Off” to disable it again.

True Tone Works With All Of Apple’s Content.

True Tone works with all of Apple’s content. It’s available on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and XS series models, as well as their larger siblings (the XS Max).

You can also enable it if you have an older model, such as an iPhone 6s or SE, by adding a setting to your device in Settings > Display & Brightness > True Tone.

If you’re wondering whether this feature is still available on your device after updating it to iOS 11 or beyond, then yes, it is.

The only difference between current iPhones and older ones is that they will continue to be able to use True Tone after updating because it was designed into both operating systems from the beginning.

    Conclusion

Hopefully, you now understand how to disable and enable True Tone on your iPhones (8/8+, X, XS, XS Max).

The True Tone feature reduces eye fatigue by making the screen appear warmer to your eyes and less cold. The only con to it is that it’s not always perfect, especially with dark content.

This can be solved by manually adjusting your settings or using third-party apps like “Night Shift,” which adjusts the color temperature of your screen automatically depending on whether it’s day or night outside where you’re located.
