Money talks and the 15-year-old crowd wants to listen. That’s why they’re so ready to hit the ground running in a career where they can start earning serious cash that can help fund a lifetime of fun.

Are you a 15-year-old looking for a summer job? It’s not an easy task, trying to find the best jobs for 15-year-olds, isn’t it? We’re here to tell you what you need to know about the best jobs for 15-year-olds. Before you proceed you may like to know the laws, and restrictions guarding workers who are 15 years of age.

    Employment Landscape For Younger Workers

The employment landscape for younger workers, who are categorized as 15 years of age and below is currently operating under numerous restrictions imposed by the government and other organizations involved. Working for a summer job can teach younger workers important skills, help them establish connections that can launch their careers, and pay for college.

However, some responsibilities may be barred from younger workers depending on regulations set by their state and industry. The Federal government has certain restrictions placed on 15-year-olds, including the number of hours worked and restrictions on tasks.  Many states have their own restrictions as well.

State child labour areas of responsibility may vary from state to state, some local governments or even specific counties or cities may also have child labour laws.  A 15-year-old can get a job at a wide variety of places.

There are however some restrictions but if you look hard enough you might be able to find the job for you.

     The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for instance imposed the following limitations on teenagers in the US;

    • 15-year-olds are limited to working between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
    • 15-year-olds may not work before 7 a.m. or after 7 p.m., during school hours, or for more than three hours on school days; nor may they work more than eight hours on non-school days, on weekends, or during summer vacation.
    • The FLSA recommends that youths aged 15 get at least eight consecutive hours of sleep at night.
    • 15-year-olds are limited to working 8 hours per day on non-school days, 40 hours per week during non-school weeks, 3 hours per day on school days and 18 hours per week on school weeks

    Note:

The FLSA’s youth employment provisions do not restrict the number of hours in a day or days in a week that youth under 16 years of age may work outside of school

A lot of people nowadays don’t have time to spare but still require professional help from someone responsible who’d ensure proper care. You don’t have to be a vet or walk around with a badge on your coat. All you need is a love for animals and basic knowledge about them. If you love dogs, are a good worker and need some extra cash, this may be the job for you.

Salary: About $14- $16 per hour

Salary: ranges from about $28,440 to $91,710 per year

By definition, a retail cashier is “a person who collects and gives out money at a checkout counter.” What the job entails exactly depends on the employer. Sometimes they will have you do things like bagging customers’ purchases, cleaning up around the store after closing time, or stocking shelves. At other times they might only have you deal with customers and run the register. Some are more hands-on and others don’t ask for much beyond standing behind the counter and being friendly.

    Salary: About $13.13 per hour

    Restaurant dishwasher or kitchen help

If you’re a fifteen-year-old that wants to work, you might be interested in the job of a dishwasher. Dishwashers aren’t paid a lot but it’s good for someone who just needs a quick buck. The work isn’t hard, but you’re going to get wet from cleaning all these dishes. You will also be doing dishes for like eight hours every day so if you hate doing dishes this is not the job for you. There are many benefits to being a dishwasher, from finding new friends to learning dishes you will never order .

    Salary: About $12 per hour

Kennel assistant or dog daycare attendant

Charity fundraiser/nonprofit organization volunteer or intern

Are you interested in helping the world while still doing things you enjoy? If this sounds like a dream job, then I have some news for you — it can be your reality! A popular volunteer and internship program is one where volunteers and interns travel to Ecuador to teach English. The opportunity gives individuals a chance to expand their knowledge of language, culture, and education. This also gives them the chance to travel through South America without much money spent on your part.

Salary: About $33,530 to $100,410 yearly

    Pet sitter

Fortunately, you have the option of hiring a 15-year-old to perform the duties of a pet sitter.

Salary: About $12 to $15 per hour

Actors and actresses are the lifeblood of cinematic storytelling, keeping the art form alive and fresh. With each movie they help make, they shape public opinion, influence pop culture, and connect people to each other (let alone to the screens they’re watching on). Acting jobs for 15 year olds could be  a tough one because there are so many things that factor into getting an acting job as a 15 year old.

    Salary: About $11.00 per hour

    IN A NUTSHELL

After reading this article, you might no longer be wondering, “What jobs hire at 15?” It is important to think about what you want to be doing a year or two (or fifteen) from now. Think about the career fields you would like to be a part of, and pursue an education in that field. It is important to take a look at the world of work and include on your radar what shifts are changing in this environment. Think broadly and research which jobs will likely still be around in 10 years.
